"Dylign never settled for 'close enough' until all three rigid boxes matched seamlessly."

The story between Le Bon Garçon and Dylign

Three Boxes, One Gold Standard

A colorful Le Bon Garçon caramel box is displayed with pumpkins, citrus, spices, and wrapped caramels.

The Brand

Le Bon Garçon makes premium caramels that blend traditional French confection technique with bold modern flavors. It is a long-standing client, and this project covered three high-end rigid boxes in the dragon series: Yellow Dragon, Blue & White Dragon, and Pink.

The requirement was harder than it sounds. All three had to agree on color, gold foil and deboss depth while each keeping its own visual identity, and all three had to sit alongside the brand's existing printed labels, where even a small shift in tone shows.

A pink Le Bon Garçon rigid box with floral artwork is displayed with wrapped caramels and a glass of rosé.

The Challenge

Color on a luxury rigid box cannot be settled on screen. Paper stock, batch variation and ink oxidation all change how a color lands in real life, and a digital file does not account for any of them.

The Pink box made that concrete. The design file showed a pale peach. The physical box the brand was working from was a deeper, redder tone. Those are not the same color, and only one of them was on a shelf.

Blue and pink Le Bon Garçon rigid boxes are arranged with red ribbon and candy canes.

The Solution

The baseline. We asked Le Bon Garçon to send physical boxes from previous runs rather than working from files. The Yellow box was matched against the brightness and tone of the physical reference. The Blue box needed the gold foil and deboss depth brought in line. The Pink box needed the gap between file and reality closed.

The matching. Blue took more than ten rounds of color and foil adjustment. Pink took more than twenty rounds of hand-mixed ink, printed and compared under standardized lighting, and we explained openly that around 95% is the realistic target on packaging color rather than pretending 100% is available.

The finish details. The client wanted a deeper deboss on the Blue box and one consistent gold across all three, so we calibrated the Blue foil against the Pink box's gold as the baseline. We caught that the Yellow box's interior lining paper did not extend to the bottom and updated the dieline. When missing deboss lines turned up on the dragon artwork and the Pink deboss sat at the wrong depth, we re-checked the deboss files, re-aligned the foil and deboss dies, and explained where small-run samples and full production differ on machine calibration. To keep those revisions moving, we waived the $200 development fee on two rounds of prototyping and charged only actual shipping.

The cost conversation. Adding gold foil and rising international freight pushed the landed price up, and the client had quotes from other suppliers under $2 a box. We broke it into its parts: base box cost, foil tooling, freight. Then we offered a slower but cheaper ocean schedule, which brought the delivered price with foil to their $1.95 target.

The Result

5,000 Yellow Dragon boxes, produced in about 12 business days and shipped by sea. We stayed with the shipment through port arrival, customs and FedEx pickup, explaining the tracking gaps between each handoff, and all 5,000 landed.

Blue and Pink are still in sample refinement, and the client has started quoting a further 10,000 Blue boxes along with other custom work.

“Dylign helped us keep the premium details without losing control of cost.”
