“Dylign didn't just print our colors, they engineered our baby blue to work on physical film”

The story between Slow Street Granola and Dylign

Baby Blue Isn't So Simple

A woman holds three light blue Slow Street Granola pouches in front of her face outdoors.

The Brand

Gilly founded Slow Street Granola to bring small-batch, wholesome granola into daily breakfast rituals. Moving the product from 10 oz to 12 oz meant new stand-up pouches across three flavors: Original, Peanut Butter, and Dark Chocolate & Cherry.

The pouch had to keep the brand's signature baby blue, a matte finish, a clear view window and a fully recyclable structure, with a zipper and tear notch for everyday use.

The Challenge

The color was the hard part, and for a reason that does not show up until the pouch is printed.

Her previous packaging had a white pearlescent base. A clear film does not. Light passes through it, so the blue on the front and the blue on the back stack on top of each other and the same ink value comes out noticeably darker. Then the granola goes in, and a dark fill shifts the perceived color again.

A baby blue is the worst possible color for this. There is very little pigment holding it in place, so every one of those effects shows.

A light blue Slow Street Granola Original pouch rests on a green and white striped tote bag.

The Solution

The color. Gilly sent her existing packaging, stickers and reference samples, marked with what she liked and what she did not. We printed and tested more than thirty blues against those physical references, explaining as we went how different materials change color, transparency and texture.

To get as close as possible to the original baby blue while keeping the matte finish and the window, we moved the structure to MOPP / CPP and produced five blue versions with the lamination effect, sent as photos and video for comparison. We recommended Color 3, because a lighter blue is more easily influenced by the granola sitting behind it.

The window. Spot UV over the window area only, so the pouch body stays matte and the window reads clear and glossy.

The claim. During file checks we found the artwork said “compostable” while the specified material was recyclable. We flagged it and corrected the copy before production, so the package does not say something the structure cannot support.

The gusset. After the sample, Gilly questioned the bottom width. We explained the difference between the full gusset dimension and the usable standing depth, then widened the full gusset from around 2.3 inches to 3.15 inches, which brings the usable standing depth to about 2.3 inches, enough for a 12 oz fill. No price change and no re-sampling.

The Result

Gilly approved the second round of samples and moved to a 15,000-unit production run, with the quantities split flexibly across the three flavors according to how they sell, at no additional cost.

“Dylign made the whole process feel collaborative. They listened to what mattered to us and found ways to make it work.”
